expo 2010 energiezentrale. the “energiezentrale”, or energy centre, was the highlight of “balancity”, the german pavilion at the expo 2010 in shanghai. here, an interactive show has taken place with 600 visitors at a time. you enter the energy centre and separate into three galleries that are mounted on three different levels. in the middle, there is a three-metre diameter ball that displays images, colours and shapes – ideas from germany on the expo theme “better city, better life”.
the ball consists of individual led elements and displays images on its surface. on behalf of milla und partner who are responsible for the design of “arge deutscher pavillon”, we developed the imagery and video sequences for the show. a mix of real shots, animations and 3d worlds creates a fascinating, interactive film that is controlled by the visitors through sound and responds to the movements of the ball. hundreds of hours of rendering time and elaborate tests conducted on a 1:1 trial installation produced this fantastic result.
